Music Monday

Since this past weekend was Coachella it only feels appropriate to feature a band that performed at the California festival and with that being said I present to you, the unexpected hit duo, MGMT, featuring Brooklyn natives Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden.
Since their astounding success with “Oracular Spectacular” it was almost nerve-wrecking to think the duo could possibly top it with their catchy hits like “Electric Feel” and “Kids”. But since the leak of “Congratulations” and official release on April 13th, it’s obvious that the band is taking us on a time machine acid trip. With a swarm of Surfer bongos, punk sensibilities, 80’s Brit pop, psychedelic beats all bathed in the essence of Pink Floyd. Prepare yourself for this short, yet very sweet ride that is “Congratulations”.

1. It’s Working

2. Song For Dan Treacy

3. Someone’s Missing

4. Flash Delerium

5. I Found A Whistle

6. Siberian Breaks

7. Brian Eno

8. Lady Dada’s Nightmare

9. Congratulations

Keep your eyes peeled if the duo will be performing in your area, I saw them at Lollapalooza circa ‘08 and it was undoubtedly one of my favorite shows of that year. Here’s a video of MGMT performing at Coachella this past weekend:

And what would a music festival coverage be without some style coverage! These women manage to still look like total babes in 100 degree weather.

(Love of my life) Victoria Legrand from Beach House.

Kate Bosworth.

Music Mondays

Being the anal, OCD girl that I am I’ve decided to give this blog a little more structure. Every Monday I’ll be posting on music, whether it’s decades old or the next it band, you’ll hear it all. I’m also interested in hearing from all of you and what you’d like to see more of on Drifting Gypsy.

For today I’ve decided to share one of my newest treasures from the sea, The Sandwitches.

San Francisco based band The Sandwitches, whose two members were formerly part of The Fresh & Onlys, has been causing a lot of buzz around the blogosphere since their album ”How To Make Ambient Sadcake” released a few months back. The album artwork was created by NYC’s airbrush artisan, Jason Faulkner, and in so many great ways represents The Sandwitches adorable awkwardness.
Throughout the album you’ll find yourself gushing over the nostalgic melodies and smokey vocals. With tracks like “Back To The Sea” and “Fire” you may catch yourself occasionally doing the twist and clapping along with a big ole smile on your face. On the other hand you may find yourself smoking a joint with your closest girl friends and desperately singing along to “Marry Me”. All in all The Sandwitches are definitely worth taking a bite out of and you’ll surely be seeing more of.

Track Listing:

1. Back to the Sea

2. Tarantula Arms

3. The Revisionist

4. Strangers Shadows

5. Fire

6. Relax At The Beach

7. Marry Me

8. No No

9. Wicked Inger

10. Crabman

11. Kiss Your Feet

12. Mr. Promotion

13. Thank You For Listening

Until next week!
